Independent Audit Provides Assurance that Customer Data is Protected and Secure
BURLINGTON, Mass. – September 6, 2006 – SoundBite Communications Inc., a leading provider of hosted, automated customer contact solutions, today announced it has received its SAS 70 auditors report which provides assurance that the application service provider has undergone and satisfied an in-depth audit on the design of its controls surrounding the SoundBite solution. Performed by Vitale, Caturano & Company Ltd., the SAS 70 audit is an independent examination that SoundBite has documented and suitably designed controls for its solution.
In light of the regulations governing businesses today, service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when hosting or processing data belonging to their customers. A SAS 70 auditors report provides assurance that a service organization has undergone and satisfied an in-depth audit of its internal and external control activities. Stemming from the audit completed by Vitale, Caturano & Company Ltd., SoundBite’s SAS 70 Type I report demonstrates that the company’s description of certain relevant controls is fairly presented; the controls have been suitably designed to achieve the control objectives specified in the description; and that such controls have been placed in operation as of May 15, 2006.
As organizations continue to realize tremendous value and ROI from hosted, automated voice messaging solutions, they want assurances that their customer data is protected. Today, more and more organizations are making SAS 70 audits a key requirement for doing business with a hosted vendor. Compliance Officers at these organizations now require that application service providers demonstrate that they have adequate security controls and safeguards in place when they host or process data belonging to their customers.
SoundBite’s SAS 70 audit is another key milestone in its comprehensive, long-term security strategy. The company has adopted a three-pronged security platform that includes the safeguarding of customer data, systems infrastructure, and physical locations; the continual testing and review of those safeguards; and security awareness and training for its employees and subcontractors. Additionally, SoundBite has selected security technologies and protocols that have been adopted by some of the leading organizations around the globe such as data encryption and firewalls, criminal background checks for employees and contractors, video surveillance and restricted access to facilities.
“Our recent SAS 70 audit assures our customers and end-users that we have the safeguards in place to maintain optimal data security in a hosted environment,” said Ed Gardner, Information Security Officer at SoundBite Communications. “Safeguarding customer data is an absolute priority for our business. As part of our long-term security strategy, we increased the scope of our internal audit to include physical access, personnel management and other standards-based processes and security measures. We believe this rigorous approach will position us strongly as we focus on compliance with future auditing standards.”
